BMW X5 30 D MSPORT FUEL PUMP FAILURE

Hi All -

Ok so i have owned a 2018 X5 30 D M Sport form a year old never had a problem ( apart from rear air suspension ! )

2 weeks ago i was driving home and the drive train warning came on , the car just stopped and i had to pull over - The car would not start from this point

I am now being told that the fuel pump has a had a failure causing metal to go into the entire fuel system and the whole system needs to be replaced - This is £10k so i am shocked and can not afford this sort of repair - i have since had the car recovered to Bmw so i am waiting to see what they say - this is an obvious issue and i see in the Usa the fuel pump warranty was extended to 10 years ! I am based in UK

it seems the fuel pump on my car is not fit for purpose

Can anyone here offer me some advice as i am so worried !!

Hi

Had exactly the same issue around the same time. Very low miles on ours (45k) and has been maintained at a BMW main dealer and a BMW Approved specialist, since purchased new.

The specialist had hoped it was the fuel senders but stripped the system and found lots of metal fragments, they have priced the parts and just over £10k plus labour.

Exactly as you have found it looks like there was a recall in the US but nothing showing in the UK

The car was transported to Bmw a few weeks back and there quote is nearly £15k !!! I am fighting this with Bmw Complaints as the fuel pump is not a serviceable part so should last a life time ( 10 Years 100k miles )

It is very stressful and i feel for you mate

Basically you have to get the Car to a Bmw dealer then let them do the diagnostic work then you can start the complaint procedure

How are you getting on with BMW?

Our car is now with the dealer for inspection, they were incredibly unhelpful initially but have now given us a courtesy car, so hopeful of a positive outcome

So the latest from BMW UK is that they will make a 'goodwill' gesture towards the cost of the parts, with us paying the balance and us paying for the full costs of the labour.

Started my career in Teir 1 automotive, so by my calculations, their 'goodwill' means that they are selling the parts to us at trade...so total costs including VAT will be c£7k

This is my fourth BMW and was just starting to do the numbers on ordering a new X7, so disappointing that BMW are looking to profit from a known issue and regretfully it'll be the last BMW that I buy

Since this started we've done quite a lot of research and looks like the issue is not just isolated to the US
